FINGERPASS Fingerprint Identification Lab was
found in the Institute of Automation CAS in 1996. With the leading
of Dr. Jie Tian, FINGERPASS has done much research on the novel
technology of fingerprint Recognition and has done lots of work
in the wonderful application of fingerprint Identification. During
the passed 8 years, FINGERPASS participate in many momentous projects
such as National Science Foundation projects, National 863 Foundation
projects and CAS Study Abroad Foundation projects. By this time
FINGERPASS has issued 7monographs, has published about 40 papers
on the important conferences and magazines and now has 14patents,
6registered soft wares. What's more, FINGERPASS has many excellent
graduates. They have got the burse of the dean special Award of
CAS, the Hundred Excellent dissertation Award of National Education
Committee, the Huawei First Award etc.
Our work focus on three aspects, they are theoretic research, the Open Platform of Fingerprint Recognition System and commercial application of fingerprint identification.
The fingerprint recognition algorithms include such four components as fingerprint classification, fingerprint data compression, fingerprint enhancement, and minutiae matching. All the algorithms were raised in the background of special application, and they were tested and improved in our Open Platform. The Open Platform of Fingerprint Recognition System is a soft ware which absorbs the many years' research productions of our research group. The platform plays a very important role in our research. it provides a powerful research environment and is enriched with the group's research productions. The platform is found with the national standard of biometrics features interface (BioAPI1.0). The platform copyright is reserved.
The research group of Automated Fingerprint Identification
System has already brought up more than 10 doctors and graduates,
and the grads show great talent in their new work.
The fingerprint recognition algorithms(one to
the open category and the other to the light category) got an excellent
result in FVC2004. The results of FVC2004
show that both algorithms ranked the first among those submitted
by international academies. The algorithm on the open category ranked
the third (EER=2.30%), and the one on the light category ranked
the seventh (EER=4.91%), while the average performance (EER=3.61%)
of them ranked the fifth among all the participants. These two algorithms
won 19 medals in all: 5 Golden medals, 7 Silver medals and 7 Bronze
medals, which was the most of all international academies.
